Papworth Hospital celebrates Nurse's Day

Papworth Hospital is celebrating International Nurse's Day on Friday 12 May 2017, to recognise the incredible contribution our nurses make to patients, their families and carers.

Every year, Nurse's Day commemorates the birth of Florence Nightingale, who became a trailblazing figure in nursing during the Crimean War in the 1850s. First celebrated in 1965 by the International Council of Nurses, the event is a fantastic opportunity to say thank you to nurses around the world who give so much of their time, energy and skills to change people's lives.

Here at Papworth, we are celebrating Nurse's Day with a range of activities throughout the hospital, including a talk from our Director of Nursing, presentations from long-standing nurses on how the hospital has changed over the years and the launch of our Careers Clinic to help nurses build their careers within the hospital.

We are also taking part in a national social media campaign to recognise our #nurseheroes, by inviting patients to share messages with our nursing team at Papworth Hospital. Here are some of the messages we have received so far.

"All the nurses and health care workers on Princess Ward are always amazing and caring - I'm so lucky to have them looking after me."  Sarah Jane Lewis

"Nurses, you are amazing. I have never had such fantastic care. You treated me with the utmost respect and care, from my first appointment through to transplant, CCU, Mallard Ward & now at the Transplant Unit. Papworth shows NHS at its best, thank you. Next app TCCU in August, I will bring cake!"  Annette Tremlin

"The doctors and nurses at Papworth are just fantastic. They all make you feel at ease while you're with them. I was worried sick going there but they soon had me relaxed and looked after me really well." Roger Beattie

We would like to say a huge thank you to our nurses, healthcare support workers, trainees and wider clinical staff for continually delivering excellent care and support to our patients.

Papworth Hospital is currently recruiting nurses to be part of our journey to New Papworth Hospital. Please visit www.papworthjobs.com to find out more about the opportunities we have available.
