Papworth's latest research highlighted at symposium

Innovation was centre stage at the Papworth Research Symposium this week.

Scores of staff, along with visiting clinicians and researchers, were given an insight into the trials and investigations going on across the Trust at the all-day Papworth Village Hall event on Wednesday (November 8).

The theme of the event was Translational Research, and keynote speakers included Professor Tariq Sethi, Head of Translational Medicine Unit at AstraZeneca; Dr James Clulow, Innovation Manager Health Enterprise East, and Anna Ellis, Patient & Public Involvement Officer, Cambridge University Hospitals.

Clinical Project Manager Chrissie Mills, who was part of the Research & Development team who organised the event, said: “We had a brilliant turnout – 164 registered to attend and people were arriving all day.

“It was a great opportunity to discuss the research going on at the hospital, and also a chance to highlight the research collaborations that the move to the new Papworth Hospital will open up.”

Papworth clinicians Dr Ian Smith, Dr Robert Rintoul, Dr Stephen Hoole, Dr Timothy Quinnell, Mr Samer Nashef, Mr Yasir Abu Omar, Dr Andrew Grace, Dr Nicky Simler, Dr Mark Southwood and Mr Stephen Large were due to speak.

The hall was decked out with posters and information advertising various teams’ research work, and delegates were able to vote for their favourites.
