A Christmas ‘thank you’ to our wonderful volunteers

Papworth’s volunteers were treated to their annual Christmas meal as a ‘thank you’ for all their hard work through the year.

Chief Executive Stephen Posey and Director of Nursing Josie Rudman hosted the PALS-organised event at the Cambridge Belfry in Cambourne on Tuesday, 19 December.

More than 80 volunteers – who are involved in many different roles at the hospital, including reading panels, admin, assisting in clinics and the gift shop, and providing a trolley service on the wards – provide the equivalent of 9 WTE staff hours between them.

The volunteers will continue to provide a very valuable service going forward and will be our wayfinding champions when we move to the new hospital in 2018.

Some examples of the compliments paid to our volunteers by patients and their families:
  • ‘I couldn’t have found my way without your help, you do a great job’
  • ‘It was lovely to have someone to talk to, as my relatives can’t get in every day’
  • ‘Without your paperboy I would not have been able to keep up with the news and do my crossword, thank you’
