Daniel gains a Master's in ICT thanks to hospital's investment

A four-day working week may sound like a luxury to some, but for Royal Papworth Hospital Applications Developer Daniel Caranese, it meant four days at the hospital and one attending lectures at Anglia Ruskin University.

Earlier this year, Daniel graduated with a Master of Science (MSc) in ICT after utilising support and funding available from the Trust.

Daniel’s MSc – which he completed on a part-time basis over a two-and-a-half-year period – was 70 per cent paid for by the hospital, a contribution invaluable to his personal and professional development.

The opportunity came when Daniel saw a vacancy for a Junior Programmer at the hospital but needed a higher qualification for the post. He looked into the opportunities available to him and found there is a great deal of support and some funding available for individuals wanting to enhance their professional knowledge and skills.

“I didn’t know such opportunities were available for non-clinical staff at the hospital,” Daniel said.

“Undertaking my Master’s is definitely the best decision I have made. I now have a relevant and valid qualification in my area of interest and it feels like it has opened so many doors for me”.

Daniel’s passion is in application security – which involves finding flaws in applications and fixing them. His MSc dissertation research has recently been published in Digital Forensics Magazine.
