Hospital's past and present showcased at Cambridge Science Festival

The work of Royal Papworth Hospital is being showcased at a number of Cambridge Science Festival events this month.

On Thursday, 22 March, (18.00-19.00) Mr Pedro Catarino, Clinical Lead for Transplantation, will discuss heart transplantation and its transformative effects in a talk entitled: ‘Oliver gave his heart to Amelia... and his lungs to Chloe’.

The talk, which will also detail new transplant technologies on the horizon as well as the latest news on the DCD heart transplant programme, will take place at the Cambridge Academy for Science and Technology in Robinson Way, Cambridge.

And on Sunday, 25 March,  ‘Connecting with life at Royal Papworth Hospital’ - also at the Cambridge Academy for Science and Technology - will investigate how cardiothoracic medicine has developed in the past 100 years, as part of the #RoyalPapworth100 centenary celebrations.

Staff from across the hospital’s specialties will be on hand between 11.00 and 15.00 with practical demonstrations and fun family activities, from lung capacity tests to ‘banana angioplasty’.

The 24th annual two-week science extravaganza runs from 12-25 March and stages over 320 mostly free
events, including talks, exhibitions, films and performances.
