Celebrating the vital role of nurses for International Nurses' Day 2018

Royal Papworth Hospital is celebrating the vital role of nurses today (11 May) – ahead of tomorrow’s International Nurses' Day 2018.

As part of the hospital’s own events, Royal Papworth Hospital nurses have been paying tribute to their nurse role models in short films being played in between a series of talks in the lecture theatre.

The day is also being used as an opportunity to launch Royal Papworth Hospital’s new Nursing Strategy 2018- 2021.

Julie Quigley, Lead Advanced Nurse Practitioner, who is organising the Royal Papworth celebrations, said: “We’re planning a series of presentations looking at where we are from a nursing perspective. In particular what we would like to achieve within nursing over the next three years, developing dynamic nursing careers within our hospital to meet the demands of our patients and services, and maximising the use of new technology to advance patient care.

“2018 is a time to look forward to treating our patients in a new purpose-built facility on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus - this will bring new challenges to the nursing workforce but also excitement and opportunity.

“There will be sessions looking at opportunities and career progression for staff - how we keep hold of people and equip them with skills and knowledge to enhance their careers at Royal Papworth Hospital."
