Construction Update - November 2015

In the last construction column for the New Papworth Hospital for 2015, I’ll begin by saying that our first year of onsite building has really flown by.

The reinforced concrete frame basement slab and retaining walls near completion, while the ground floor suspended post-tension slab works continue, along with the initial ground-to-first floor walls and columns.

Backfilling of the huge basement retaining walls is still continuing. The materials we’re using for this process are recycled/stabilised materials already excavated from the basement. This ensures fewer trucks and large pieces of machinery are entering and leaving the site, which is better for the environment, local traffic and our neighbours.

The creation of the energy centre basement slab has also begun and will continue through December and into the New Year.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those from the Trust and the Cambridge Biomedical Campus who have been so positive about our approach and our work so far. It’s very encouraging to receive such feedback and we’re looking forward to sharing the excitement of the construction as the New Papworth Hospital really begins to take shape next year.

I wish you, your families and friends warm festive greetings and I wish you all good health and happiness for 2016.
