Education and learning

“Providing high quality care for patients requires a high quality workforce and Papworth Hospital is a shining example of an employer investing in its staff.” Sarah Boulton, Chair of NHS East of England.

Papworth Hospital is recognised as one of the top healthcare employers in the country (HSJ July 2010).

Do you know about our career, education and learning programmes?

We have high standards for our staff and we offer a high-quality environment for teaching, training and developing our staff in return. A full range of educational programmes are available to both specialist and non specialist staff for professional development based on an individual’s needs identified through their personal development plan.

This may include:

  • Mandatory training - health & safety, infection control, equality and diversity
  • NVQs and vocational developments
  • Professional qualifications
  • Workforce development and management skills

Papworth Hospital’s multi-professional approach means that a range of programmes are available to meet the needs of all support staff, nurses, allied health care professionals and medical staff. This includes healthcare staff in training and those who are registered.

A team leadership and management programme is available for non-medical team leaders and an increasing number of courses are being brought on site at the hospital.

The education and learning team work collaboratively with the East of England Multi-professional Deanery to identify and effectively commission for the delivery of education and learning to meet the needs of all staff.

Mentors and supervisors receive training on a regular basis, and equipment and educational resources across the hospital are maintained at a high standard.

A comprehensive induction programme is supported by the Personal Governance Framework which makes explicit what is required of you in your role and informing you of the training and support that you will be provided.

Every member of staff takes part in an annual Individual Performance Review (IPR). This is an opportunity to discuss progress and plan future learning and development requirements, including in-house courses and more formal courses delivered through a Higher Education facility.
