Lung transplant patient organises family day fundraiser

One of Royal Papworth Hospital’s double lung transplant patients is raising money and awareness to help others benefit from the same life-saving treatment.

April Patching – who received her transplant two-and-a-half years ago – is organising a family fun day in Cambourne, near Cambridge, with proceeds being split between the hospital’s charity and mental health charity MIND.

The grandmother of three has been heavily involved with the hospital as a volunteer since her surgery. As an ambassador for Papworth Hospital Charity she travels around the area encouraging people to sign the organ donation register, and helps other transplant patients on the road to recovery.

The fun day – which will include bouncy castles, a barbecue, licensed bar, tug of war and many stalls - takes place at the Hub in Cambourne High Street on Saturday (4 August) from 2pm. The fun carries on until 10.30pm, and the evening entertainment includes a fancy dress competition. Entry is free but donations will be appreciated.
