In May 2026, Royal Papworth staff sent 261 Laudits to celebrate the everyday extraordinary achievements of their colleagues.
Our award-winning positive incident reporting platform, Laudit, allows our people to send positive feedback to one another in just a few simple clicks.
Everyone who receives a Laudit is automatically entered into a monthly draw and five winners are selected at random.
Our May winners were Benjamin McCleary, Frances Maquiling, Joyce Worth, Judee Lopez and Viv Bambrough.
Benjamin McCleary, Specialist Thoracic and PEA Surgery Physiotherapist
Benjamin has worked at Royal Papworth for seven and a half years. He was recognised by his colleague Allaina for prioritising a pulmonary rehabilitation assessment for a pre-operative pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA) patient.
Despite last-minute ward changes and limited preparation time, Benjamin completed the assessment, enabling the patient to avoid an unnecessary hospital stay and begin prehabilitation before surgery.

What do you like most about working at Royal Papworth?
“It’s a specialist centre in the area of physiotherapy.”
Who inspires you?
“My whole family, they’re all role models.”
What was your first ever job?
“I was a paperboy, but my first official job was a retail assistant at NEXT.”
What’s a habit you’re trying to break or build?
“Becoming better at doing exercise in bad weather.”
What’s your favourite hobby?
“I have many, but currently I enjoy playing padel, running and visiting a new country every year.”
What do you admire about the people in your team?
“Their determination and motivation to help people, even in hard times.”
What’s your proudest accomplishment?
“Cycling the length of Italy and Sicily for charity. It was the hardest thing I’ve done, but the most rewarding.”
Frances Maquiling, Enhanced Recovery Unit (ERU) Nurse
Frances joined Royal Papworth in September 2020, during the challenging peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
She was commended for consistently maintaining a clean and organised bed space. This is a fundamental component of nursing care, supporting infection prevention, patient safety, comfort, dignity, and the delivery of high-quality care.

“I feel incredibly grateful to be recognised. This acknowledgment highlights the support from my colleagues, especially my ward sisters and senior sisters, who inspire me with their unwavering commitment to our patients."
What do you like most about working at Royal Papworth?
“It’s an honour to work at one of the world-renowned cardiothoracic hospitals. My experience here has significantly enhanced my confidence, skills and knowledge.”
Who inspires you?
“My team inspires me every day through our supportive and collaborative environment. We care for each other and our patients, which helps us navigate the challenges of our work.”
What was your first ever job?
“I started my nursing career at Addenbrooke’s Hospital and have always aspired to work at Royal Papworth since its construction.”
What do you admire about the people in your team?
“I admire the compassion and dedication of my team mates. We genuinely support one another, ensuring no one feels alone in their challenges.”
If you could master any skill immediately, what would it be?
“I’d love for our ERU team to master FICE* at the bedside, which would enhance our immediate care for post-cardiac surgical patients.”
What’s your favourite way to spend a day off?
“Cooking is my favourite way to unwind. It’s my language of love, and I enjoy preparing meals for friends and loved ones.”
What’s your proudest accomplishment?
“Passing all the examinations needed to become a licensed nurse in the UK, overcoming the challenges of relocating from the Philippines.”
*Focused intensive care echocardiography (FICE) is a rapid bedside ultrasound technique used by critical care, emergency and acute medicine doctors to immediately assess a patient's heart function and detect life-threatening, reversible conditions without waiting for a formal cardiology scan.
Joyce Worth, Registered Staff Nurse
Joyce has worked at Royal Papworth for seven and a half years. She was recognised for advocating for a patient who had been unable to shower for months following a prolonged stay in critical care.
Joyce quickly arranged the necessary support and equipment, including a healthcare support worker and shower chair, enabling the patient to shower for the first time since admission. The patient was extremely grateful and appreciated Joyce's compassion and initiative.

What do you like most about working at Royal Papworth?
“I love being part of an organisation that's known for innovation and fantastic patient care.”
What was your first ever job?
“I worked in a fish and chip shop when I was 16.”
What’s your favourite hobby?
“Running and playing netball.”
What do you admire about the people in your team?
“I admire how we all work collaboratively to support one another to provide high-quality care to our patients, whilst always managing to have a laugh and keep morale high.”
If you could master any skill immediately, what would it be?
“I’d love to play the guitar.”
How do you unwind after a busy or stressful day?
“I like to take a bath and watch my favourite comedy podcast.”
Judee Lopez, Cardiac Surgery Specialist Nurse in our enhanced recovery unit (ERU)
Judee has worked at Royal Papworth since January 2016. She was praised by her colleague Michelle for doing an excellent job preparing a presentation.
Judee stepped up to the challenge with enthusiasm and responded positively to audience questions, demonstrating professionalism throughout.

“I'm grateful and at the same time, I feel humbled that my small contribution to our team is appreciated.”
What do you like most about working at Royal Papworth?
“I like the supportive team culture, especially in our ERU team, and the opportunity to care for patients using world-class specialist services. I enjoy working alongside my highly-skilled colleagues, continuously learning and contributing to excellent patient care.”
Who inspires you?
“My family as they’re the ones who motivate me to work hard and continue growing in my chosen profession.”
What was your first ever job?
“When I first came to the UK, I worked as a carer in a nursing home whilst waiting for my Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) PIN.”
What do you admire about the people in your team?
“I really admire my team's commitment to patient care, their resilience and how well we support each other. The strong teamwork makes a real difference in creating an excellent environment for both patients and colleagues.”
If you could master any skill immediately, what would it be?
“I’d love to learn a new language as it would be very helpful for my profession. Even just learning a few key phrases can make a patient feel more comfortable and supported.”
What’s your favourite way to spend a day off?
“My usual day off includes trying new recipes as I love baking.”
What’s your most treasured possession?
“My new stand mixer!”

“I’m currently into medical drama and have just finished watching the My Hospital Playlist series.”
Viv Bambrough, Administrator, Private Care
Viv began working at Royal Papworth in May 2019, initially joining critical care as a ward clerk before becoming a personal assistant (PA) to the matrons. She then moved into the role of PA to the operations management team, and later served as pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA) multidisciplinary team (MDT) coordinator, retiring at the age of 70 in March 2023.
After a six-week break, Viv returned to the team and remained in post until December 2023, when she retired again.
Since March 2024, Viv has been working as a bank administrator. She was nominated by her colleague Richard for her hard work and dedication within the private care team. Her empathy for patients and collaborative approach with colleagues and other departments reflects the trust’s values, making her a highly valued member of the team.

“I’m thrilled and honoured to have been selected!”
What do you like most about working at Royal Papworth?
“I’m proud to work at a world-renowned hospital and love the interaction with our private patients and the doctors and surgeons who look after them.”
Who inspires you?
“I’m inspired by the patients we treat who, even as ill as some of them are, continue to strive to live their best lives thanks again to our doctors and surgeons.”
What’s your favourite hobby?
“I love going away in our motorhome on fishing trips.”

“I admire their dedication and hard work.”
If you could master any skill immediately, what would it be?
“I'd love to be able to ride a motorbike.”
What’s your proudest accomplishment?
“I'm immensely proud of both my children who are living their dreams. My son is a 13 times Emmy Award winning TV presenter in the United States and my daughter started from scratch and still runs her own livery yard 18 years on. My proudest accomplishment is being their mother.”

“I love the Great Pottery Throwdown! I’ve never been able to work with clay and I love Keith Brymer Jones and Richard Miller and am in awe of the beautiful work the contestants produce.”
