Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is holding its Annual Members’ Meeting on Wednesday 10 September 2025.
Foundation trust members of the hospital, staff and the public are welcome to attend.
This year we have three feature presentations from guest speakers:
Professor Robert Rintoul, Respiratory Consultant at Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Co-chair of the Lung Cancer Screening Programme in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough will be talking about the lung cancer screening programme, and how it is catching lung cancer earlier when it is more treatable, leading to better outcomes for patients.
Mr Sam Nashef, Consultant Cardiac Surgeon and Chief Investigator of the QUACS study will share findings from the QUACS (QUality of life After Cardiac Surgery) study, a first of-its-kind research study into quality of life following heart surgery.
Nationally, 29 NHS cardiac surgical centres took part in this study with Royal Papworth as the lead centre. More than 2,900 patients were recruited to the study, with Royal Papworth the largest individual recruiter with 438 patients in total.
Mr David Jenkins, Clinical Lead for Cardiothoracic Surgery, will share a presentation on cardiothoracic surgery activity and outcomes during the past few years.
Our data shows our outcomes in cardiothoracic surgery are now among the best we have ever achieved. Mr Jenkins will talk about mortality rates for cardiac and thoracic surgeries as well as pulmonary endarterectomy: a highly specialised operation only performed in the UK at Royal Papworth used to treat people with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH).
Also on the agenda:
We will be joined by Dr Jag Ahluwalia, Chair; Eilish Midlane, Chief Executive Officer; Louise Palmer, Deputy Director for Quality and Risk; and Liz Sandford, Interim Chief Finance Officer, who will all reflect on clinical, operational and financial performance during 2024/25, as well as focusing on the current year and future plans. We will also be talking about our membership offering.
The results of this year’s Council of Governors election will also be announced at the meeting too.
The event is being held virtually using MS Teams and is scheduled to run from 13:30 – 15:30. To join the event, please complete the online registration form.
